Sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Henry (Herm) Brandell who passed away in Traverse City. Herm was a member of the Finn Camp from its beginning and just recently had moved to Traverse City to be nearer his only daughter, Barb, as his health was failing. Herm is also survived by his wife, Gert, and two grandsons.
I am sorry to announce the passing of Sylvia Leiviska Ketola, a former member, at 96 years old in Wollongong, Australia. Born Sept 11, 1912. Died May 20, 2009 after a fall. A celebration of her long and eventful life was held on 26 May, with slide show, testimonials from family in Finland and America, and a motorcycle escort to see her off! Survived by daughter, Georgia Leiviska Phillips, son-in-law, Peter and grandchildren, Elizabeth and David. One sister and one brother of her Stark family still survive also. She contributed many hours to the Co-op and purchased a house at 2175 Qualla, where Georgia was raised. She lived life to the full!
Arnie Soderholm for the loss of his wife, Joyce Ilmi Soderholm. Joyce was a life long Finn Camp member who passed away at the end of April following a lengthy illness.
Chris Christensen, a former member, was pass away on Monday, May 18 near the Eastern Market in Detroit. Condolences to his father Thomas Christensen, mother Janet Sprey, sister Heidi, and bother Norman.
A memorial service and luncheon is planned for Saturday, June 20, 11 a.m. at Highland Congregational Church located at 1605 N. Hickory Ridge Road, Highland, one mile north of M59. Between Wardlow and Middle Roads. Bring your love and your stories and we will all celebrate the love, laughter and joy that Chris gave us.
