A taste of Hawaii with a Finnish twist. The Bar Committee sponsored a Luau in the clubroom on Saturday, July 18. The clubroom was transformed into a beautiful Hawaiian beach resort. The natives arrived in tropical prints and grass skirts. Hawaiian music filled the room while partygoers danced the night away. Sex on the beach was the drink of the evening along with tasty appetizers. The Bar Committee would like to thank the members who came out and had fun at the Luau. Our winners for the games were Amber Martin, (formerly Sennhenn) for the limbo. Patti leppi won our Hula Hoop contest and Stevce Melancon, aka \u2018The Big Kuhuna\u201d won best dressed Hawaiian. Our baretenders Joni and Denny Sennhenn made sure no one went thirsty. Thanks also go to out to Drew Pype, Blake Holm, Joey Solin and Lyndsey Taipala for helping inflate our beach balls and palm trees and then deflating them too. And a big thank you to my party planner, Pam Linick. Thanks to all who contributed to the food table and bringing their Alhoa Spirit!<\/div>\n
Juhannus Thank You<\/strong><\/div>\n
Juhannus 2009 was a great success. I would like to take a moment to thank Mike and Mary Barie for organizing the Car Show and Greg Pelto for managing the kitchen. A lot of time and effort goes into putting on one of these events, which cannot be done unless members remember that we are cooperative<\/em> organization and come forward to help. Thanks to those of you who came to work hours and to those of you who didn\u2019t need the hours but still came and helped. All was appreciated.<\/div>\n

Board Notes and Reminders<\/strong><\/div>\n
Members who are storing boats at Sun Lake must put their name and membership number on them immediately; if not, they will be disposed of, as there are too many discarded boats.<\/div>\n
Members seeking work hours may see Steve Melancon to help with the sauna rehab.<\/div>\n
Renters have full privileges of the Finn Camp and lakes but cannot bring guests into the Sun Lake area.<\/div>\n
No animals are permitted on the grounds unless they are properly leashed or under control, nor are animals permitted in the public eating areas. Members are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Dogs shall not create a nuisance by barking or baying. The board will issue one warning to the member owning the pet; a second warning includes a $25 fine.<\/div>\n
Members using the outdoor sink on the west side need to clean it up after each use, it has been clogged and if it can’t be kept clean, it might have to be removed.<\/div>\n

We are very fortunate to have Angie Wendolowski as the swim instructor again this year. Swimming lessons are held Mondays through Thursdays with Friday as a makeup day, if needed, due to inclement weather. Swimming lessons will run through Thursday, August 6. The annual Swim Meet will be held Saturday,August 8,<\/strong> at 1:00 p.m. This is a time for all swim lesson participants to display their swimming skills through friendly competition.<\/div>\n

Friday, August 14: <\/strong>The kitchen and the beer truck open at 5 p.m. The Home Run Derby begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by entertainment and dancing in the Clubroom.<\/div>\n
Saturday, August 15:<\/strong> Kitchen opens for breakfast at 8 a.m., with food available all day in the kitchen and food tent. The softball tournament begins at 8 a.m. on our \u201cA\u201d field and the Gilbert Willis Park fields. Opening ceremonies are at 11 a.m. with a flag raising by the Wixom VFW post. There will be ongoing entertainment and music from the Dance Hall porch, plus 50\/50 raffles, a pitching booth, horseshoes, bocce ball, kids\u2019 activities, concessions and the sale of Finn Camp\/Finn Fest wearables all day. Starting at 9 p.m. there will be live music for dancing in our newly renovated Dance Hall.<\/div>\n
Sunday, August 16:<\/strong> Kitchen opens for breakfast at 8 a.m. and food will be available all day. Softball will continue on all three fields with the championship game on the Finn Camp \u201cA\u201d field, late afternoon. Music, raffles, kids\u2019 activities and more such events will be held.<\/div>\n
Many workers are needed in all areas, all weekend, to help with the kitchen and food tent, concessions, raffles, setup\/cleanup and security. Work hours signup sheets are posted at the Sun Lake Beach\/Sauna. Please give a few hours to make our festival successful!<\/div>\n

Kalevala: Land of Heroes <\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n
This play will be performed in the Finn Camp Dance Hall on Saturday, August 22. Performance times are Matinee at 11 a.m. and evening at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $12 per adult and $8 per child (up to 17 years old). Tickets at the door are $15 per adult and $10 per child. Pasties will be available between performances. The Finnish Center is supplying the pasties. To reserve tickets now, send an email to FinnCulture@Yahoo.com<\/a>. Include the number of tickets and the performance time (matinee or evening).<\/div>\n
Pajama Party <\/strong><\/div>\n
It\u2019s almost pajama party time again on Saturday, September 5, starting at 9 p.m. in the clubroom. Look for flyers posted around the camp for details.<\/div>\n
Autumn Fest and Mojakka Cook-off<\/strong><\/div>\n
Saturday, October 3, at the Ravintola. Entries are welcome. Please make plans to attend this fun family event with the proceeds going to the scholarship fund.<\/div>\n
