On Saturday, September 25, join the laughter and musical fun at this year’s Autumn Fest and Mojakka Cook-off! The festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Dance Hall with the Suomalainen Sisters— Kris, Sherry and Linda Kyro—performing their hilarious Finnish comedy and music routine, “Nyt Naura— Now Laugh!” The trio has been performing to sold-out audiences throughout the UP and at international Finn Fests since 2005. After the performance, stick around to meet the Sisters and visit with friends before heading down to the Clubroom about 5:00 p.m. for the annual Mojakka Cook-off. There you’ll be able to dine on a variety of hearty mojakkas while being entertained by the music of the strolling musicians Soittoniekat.
3:00 p.m: “Nyt Naura— Now Laugh!” With the Suomalainen Sisters Advance tickets are $15 for adults and teens, $10 for children 12 and younger. (At-the-door tickets are $20 and $15, respectively.) 5:00 p.m: Mojakka Cook-off, featuring the strolling musicians Soittoniekat At-the-door only, adults are $5, children 5 to 17 are $3 and families are $15 (parents and children ages 5 to 17).
Enter the Mojakka Cook-off by sending an email to FinnCulture@Yahoo.com no later than Friday, September 24. Include your name, contact information, and the type of mojakka (e.g., beef, fish, pork, chicken, vegetarian). Your mojakka must be in a crockpot or microwave- and oven-safe container and be dropped off at the Clubroom by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
2010 Cook-off Rules:
1. Entry into the cook-off must be received no later than Friday, September 24.
2. Types of mojakka may include: beef (lihamojakka), fish (kalamojakka), and other (pork, chicken, vegetarian, etc.).
3. Mojakka must be in a crockpot or microwave/oven-safe container and dropped off at the Ravintola by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
4. Judging will be from 4:30 p.m .to 5:00p.m.
5. Prizes to be awarded as follows:
• First Place
• Second Place
• Third Place
